Upgrading to a new iPhone is always an exciting process, but there’s one aspect that’s never fun: the cost. Apple’s latest crop of smartphones are the company’s most expensive yet, with the iPhone XS starting at £999, the iPhone XS Max at £1,099, and the iPhone XR at £749. Provided you ignored the awful charging process, the Apple Pencil was a marvel of design – a stylus that looked, felt, and wrote much like an actual pen or pencil. That’s not to say it didn’t need some improvements (as we outlined in a wish list earlier this month), but adding them seem to run the risk of overcomplicating the simple elegance that made the Pencil such a joy to draw and write with. Last month Apple achieved a wonder: it made the iPad Pro exciting again. The new tablet is a USB-C-powered beast that plays nice with external gadgets without the need for dongles, and it comes with an updated, wirelessly charged Apple Pencil that checks off many of the boxes on our wish list. Apple has released its earnings report for the fourth quarter ending on September 30. Overall revenue reached $62.9 billion, marking a 20 percent boost from the year-ago quarter, and quarterly earnings per diluted share amounted to $2.41, marking a 41 percent increase. International sales played a big role in this success story, as they were responsible for 61 percent of Apple’s revenue. This was a led by a 34 percent increase in revenue from Japan and by a 22 percent increase from the rest of east Asia. The revenue was nearly $63 billion, the profit more than $14 billion, and for the year Apple generated $265 billion in revenue and nearly $60 billion in profit. When we took a look at the iPhone XS and XS Max performance in our reviews, we confirmed what we expected: they are not only the fastest iPhones ever made, but the fastest phones, period.
