GREENER SOCKS The Fibre Co. has launched its very first sock yarn, called Amble. It’s designed to be a more environmentally friendly washable sock yarn, as it uses alpaca and merino wool that has been treated using the Easy-wash process, which avoids the hazardous chemicals that are often used in producing superwash wool. It also incorporates recycled nylon. Amble comes in 100g/325m skeins, and in a palette of 12 colours - you can also buy mini skeins to use for contrasting heels, toes and cuffs, or for colourwork. Accompanying the new yarn is a pattern developed by Kate Atherley for beginners to sock knitting. ‘One Sock’ is classic top-down sock pattern in 11 sizes from infant to adult. It comes with a bonus guidebook on knitting well fitting socks. £21 per skein; ‘One…

“Marie Wallin’s British Breeds yarn - great for colorwork” Mulva Vandelay @Blackbunnyfibrz “Has to be Fyberspates Cumulus for me. I’m allergic to mohair, so love this aptly named alpaca alternative. It is so soft you can hardly feel it and the magenta is so bright!” Kristin Warry@Kristinstweets “Cartref DK! Just finished a jumper and it’s a fantastic workhorse yarn. I’m about to use a new-to-me yarn base from Shilasdair and it feels grand between my fingers already.” Karie Westermann@kariebookish “I love Bow Fiddle Yarns hand dyed yarn with the sparkly bits in - just enough for a spot of glamour but still soft to wear and lovely to knit with” Susie@susanmfinlayson “Anything dyed by Mothy and the Squid. Amazing colours.” Slate in a Spooky Mood@impything “Triskelion Cywyn Sock - it’s fabulous and sturdy without sacrificing softness. And the colours!” Kath Andrews@KathAndrews7 “De…
