VW Bus T4&5+

No. 94

This is the only magazine dedicated to the late model VW buses from the T4 and T5 on. The magazine acknowledges the evolution of the VW bus and spotlights where this symbol of freedom and adventure has now arrived: the T4 and T5 - taking their rightful place in the family of VW models and carrying on the tradition of quality and innovation that is the ever iconic VW Bus.

There are some changes here at VW Bus this month. Jimmer (Or James Northcott to give him the name that almost nobody ever uses) has decided to step back from his role as Editor of the magazine. Now Jimmer is a busy boy, running a successful electrical and building business, as well as two booming VW festivals, Vanwest and Dubtoberfest, so he won’t exactly be putting his feet up! An ever present since day one, well, before day one actually, as he was instrumental in setting the magazine up in the first place. Under his stewardship VW Bus magazine has gone on to become the best-selling Volkswagen magazine in the UK bar none. Something he should be rightly proud of. Everybody here at VW Bus would like to thank him…

Medalist’s Caravelle Shooting To Success Allan Ritchie won a bronze medal at the 2019 Para Trap Shooting World Championship after his converted Volkswagen Caravelle helped afford him the freedom to train and compete. Allan, 50, from Aberdeen, suffered a spinal injury in 2014, but since taking delivery of his wheelchair-accessible Volkswagen Caravelle in 2016, he’s been on a journey to shooting glory. Having discovered he had an eye for shooting, Allan began taking part in competitions, using his Caravelle to travel to tournaments across the UK and Europe. He won bronze at the 2019 Para Trap Shooting World Championship in Australia (presumably not with the Caravelle). “I’m delighted to come back with a medal and it was a great experience to shoot against the best in the world. My Caravelle has given…

not completely ruined

It came into our lives via some badly taken photos and a questionably written advert. Admittedly not very romantic. While that made the truck an easier purchase for us, it was the bizarrely elongated XL tray at the back, that was what initially got the juices flowing. The cantilever was undoubtedly the carrot to seal the deal for us. We bid, we waited, then we bid again. The process continued until the virtual hammer fell. There was no way it wasn't going to be ours. It’s common knowledge here at S+S that we like our adventure vans minimal, reliable and purposeful. The opposite could be said for our 'apres work pursuits'. Old and analogue, loud and oily. Thin gauge tin and a whole lot less refined, traits resonating from an era…

party in the park 2

You know you are doing something right with your show when it’s a sell-out (over 10,000 visitors packed the venue) and there are people trying to sell fake tickets on the black market. Unfortunately for them, one of those scammers then tried to sell tickets to one of the main organisers—who happens to be an ex-copper! And you know your show is getting big, when it’s being compared to Glastonbury—even if the comparison is regarding the traffic jam to get into the venue! Mind you, name me a big event that doesn’t have a bit of a traffic jam. However, I can reveal that those frustrating problems, mostly not of the organisers making, have been sorted for the next instalment of Party in the Park, when it will be moved…
