When I was a child, growing up in Belfast, I decided, at the age of 12, that my dream job would be to work for a glossy magazine. I feel so fortunate to have realised that dream and to have been at Country Living for almost a quarter of a century. I have loved every minute of it. In the ensuing years, I have, like all of us, seen many changes, both personal and in the world around me. I like to think that throughout all the ups and downs, Country Living has remained a constant, bringing…

Back from the brink… the bittern TWO DECADES AGO, THE BITTERN WAS ALMOST EXTINCT BUT, THANKS TO TWO WETLAND RESTORATION PROJECTS, THERE ARE NOW NEARLY 200 ACROSS THE UK. going greener

BRAIN WAVE If you’re decluttering your wardrobe this winter, listen up: around 380 tonnes of old wetsuits end up in landfill every year in the UK. Many are hard to recycle because they are made of petroleum-based neoprene, which is non-biodegradable. But Finisterre, an outdoor clothing brand based in St Agnes, Cornwall, is determined to make them eco-friendly. It already uses Yulex, a biodegradable rubber, and has now made a prototype of the world’s first completely recyclable suit, which it hopes to eventually put into production. Meanwhile, it is offering discounts on new wetsuits for anyone wanting to trade in their old one. For more information, visit finisterre.com. Did you know?
