play media on remote devices

IT WILL TAKE 30 minutes YOU WILL LEARN How to stream audio and video using AirPlay YOU’LL NEED Mac, iPhone, or iPad, or iPod touch; Apple TV, AirPlay-compatible TV, or AirPlay speaker If you’ve only ever considered AirPlay as a tool for streaming music to compatible speakers, think again. AirPlay allows you to stream audio and video, and that can be done from a Mac, to mirror or extend your desktop. You can even use it with non-AirPlay speakers, with the help of software like AudioBridge (£13.99, audiobridge.com), which turns Sonos speakers into AirPlay devices. You don’t even need an Apple TV box to take advantage of video streaming, as many smart TVs now support AirPlay 2, allowing you to stream directly to them. If you add an Apple TV or compatible smart TV to the Home…

privacy matters

> Apple sees privacy as a human right, and has gone to great lengths to let you keep your personal data under your own control on your iPad, particularly through its app tracking transparency feature. In iPadOS 15 Apple is adding Mail Privacy Protection, which hides your IP address so senders can’t find your location, or know if and when you opened their email. The same IP hiding technology is also implemented in Safari, plus there’s a new section in Settings called App Privacy Report. Here you can see how often apps try to access your location, contacts, camera and more. And you can see all the third party domains the app is contacting.…

how to view and customise the sidebar

1 The sidebar icon at the top left of the screen is the easiest way to toggle the sidebar on and off. You can also swipe from the left of the screen. When you do that, it slides over what’s on screen rather than pushing everything to the right. 2 Tap Edit in the sidebar and scroll down to the list of albums. Tap the ‘–‘ to delete and album or tap and hold on an album, then drag it up or down the list to reposition it. Drop it where you want its new position to be. 3 Scroll to the bottom of the sidebar and tap ‘+New Album’. Give it a title. You will be prompted to add photos to the album. You can add photos at any time later…

secrets of ipados 14

The launch of iPadOS 14 in 2020 wasn’t the seismic shift we saw the previous year when the iPad got its own operating system for the first time. However, there are plenty of new features, tweaks, and improvements in this version. Today View widgets have evolved and now feature many of the same options as the Home Screen widgets introduced in iOS 14. So, you can now add Stacks and choose between large, medium and small widgets, for example. Lots of apps look different now too, thanks to the addition of sidebars and pull-down menus. App Clips make an appearance in iPadOS with this version, and you can now use an Apple Pencil to write in any text box and have your handwriting converted to text. And in the Notes app, you…

stream any radio station straight to your ipad

IT WILL TAKE 10 minutes YOU WILL LEARN How to listen to the radio on your iPad YOU’LL NEED The Broadcasts app The ability to stream multiple radio stations is not a new phenomenon, but many of the solutions available to allow this are overly complex or only include the radio streaming as an additional feature. Broadcasts, however, takes a different approach: one that focuses solely on ease of use and the quickest possible building of a varied and interesting collection of streamed content. The interface is not futurist in any way, and offers a somewhat traditional aesthetic, but this actually makes perfect sense, because it reduces the learning curve and allows the audible content to shine through. We will show you all of the main features and how to build a new collection to listen to. HOW…
