the opici story

It’s quite a legacy. More than a century ago, Italian immigrants Joseph and Esther Opici launched a tiny wine importing business in New Jersey and, from such modest beginnings, their company has grown to become a diversified enterprise and a force in the industry. Its supplier arm, Opici Wines, today boasts a portfolio of 35 wines and eight spirits, with a total volume of 700,000 cases and annual revenues of $40 million. The wholesale division, Opici Family Distributing, operates in seven eastern states and Washington, D.C. and handles 1,400 wine and spirits brands—with total annual volume at 3.3 million cases and revenues at $350 million. RNDC And Young’s Join Forces….Republic National Distributing Co. (RNDC), the U.S. market’s second-largest spirits and wine distributor, is joining forces with fourth-ranked Young’s Market Co. Pending regulatory approval, the two sides will form a joint venture to operate in all markets where Young’s is now present, creating an $11 billion wholesale giant with a 33-market footprint. The move represents something of a bounce-back for RNDC, following the recent termination of its proposed merger with Breakthru Beverage Group. RNDC will lead operations in all 33 markets and become managing partner of the joint venture for the Young’s states, which will continue to be called Young’s Market Co. Key executives come from RNDC: president and CEO Tom Cole, COO Bob Hendrickson, and CFO Nick Mehall. A board of directors comprised equally of executives…
