Where were you when The Wizard of Oz premiered? Did you see the movie in a theater? Or did you come along later, as part of the generation that watched the beloved fairy tale on TV each year while digging in to a bowl of hot popcorn on a cold, rainy night? In our house it was a November tradition. I also remember being sick with tonsillitis just about every year at that time, downing my medicine with warm tea and honey as the monkeys chased Toto and pulled straw from the Scarecrow’s body. Many years later, in my 20 s, I watched the movie with my husband and was totally amazed by the color transformation when Dorothy opened the door to Oz. I had only seen the movie in black-and-white.…
