VICTORIANA COSTUME PARTY Quilters with an interest in period costume are in for a treat this summer, as one of Queen Victoria’s most glamorous surviving dresses – her costume for the Stuart Ball – dated 1851, goes on display at Buckingham Palace as part of the Queen Victoria’s Palace exhibition. The dress was designed by French artist and designer, Eugène-Louis Lami, and consists of silk, lace, gold braid, silver fringing and seed pearls. The exhibition celebrates the 200th anniversary of Queen Victoria’s birth and tells the story of how the young queen transformed Buckingham Palace from a private house into a working royal residence.
