Winter wonderlands, and a crew change
With one exception, we don’t usually try to match the content of our four yearly issues — designated Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter — with the seasons for which they are named. The exception of course is Winter, and this issue contains a couple of nods to the snowy months. On the cover is the late Stan Bolton’s lovely image of a Central Vermont 2-10-4 steaming majestically through a part of the Green Mountain State known as the “Vale of Bethel.” Another state known for its winter weather is Wisconsin, and on pages 58–65 Scott Lothes shows us some of the late John Gruber’s snowy Badger State images from the Center for Railroad Photography & Art’s collection. And on pages 42–59, Fred Furminger recalls Buffalo’s Blizzard of 1977, which paralyzed the…
