Like the fabled rolling stone that gathers no moss, Boulder’s massive amplifiers do a fairly convincing job of rolling over any lightweight competition en route to delivering a speaker-crushing sound. Our cover stars this month are exemplars of heavyweight, component-dense, audio engineering and are about as far from the minimalist audiophile aesthetic as it’s possible to get. Not only are both pre and power amp truly balanced amplifiers–there is not a singleended RCA input or output to be found – but they adhere to the practice of using a field of (output) devices to properly manage the current demand of high power/low impedance conditions.
