Pianists and guitarists are forced to learn music theory from the start, but the average bedroom producer can quite easily get by with a total lack of theory knowledge. But although it is possible to make half-decent music using nothing but trial and error, a bit of theory grounding is guaranteed to give you more professional-sounding chord progressions, basslines and hooks.
