It’s funny to think back to when this all began. It’s now 10 years since we celebrated our inaugural Men of the Year event, in association with Chivas Regal. What stands out is not just what a great tradition it started, but that people told me there was no way we could do it every year. We’d run out of people to celebrate, they said. There just isn’t enough local talent. Well, I’m proud to say that a full decade since I took to the podium and announced those very first Men of the Year award winners, the pool of talent in this great country of ours is still yet to run dry. In fact, it’s deeper than ever before. Welcome to this very special edition of GQ Australia, commemorating 10…

JOSH BEGGS creative director “Being our 10 year, we really wanted 2016 to feel like a celebration. The event itself is always such a fantastic party, so we wanted that fun vibe to come across in our portraits. This year, we made a conscious effort to get out of the studio and on location, and we were lucky enough to enlist some of the best celebrity photographers in the world to help capture our winners enjoying their time in the spotlight.” MIKE CHRISTENSEN managing editor “After 18 months of emails, phone calls and meetings to wrangle the winners, seeing all the covers come to fruition and look so great next to one another is extremely rewarding – and testament to the calibre of photographers we work with. I’m so chuffed with the photos…

PHOTOGRAPHER LA-based Inglish handled two of our Men of the Year cover stories. First, he shot our outrageously stylish International Man of the Decade, Jon Hamm (p178), and was then kind enough to jet over to Byron Bay for a weekend, to capture GQ’s 2016 Man of the Year, Mr Chris Hemsworth (p128). SOUNDS LIKE YOU’VE BEEN A BUSY MAN. HOW DID IT ALL GO? There’s nothing like flying to the other side of the world for less than 48 hours. Fortunately, working with Chris Hemsworth was the icing on the cake. It made all the travel worth it. AND JON HAMM? It was my first time working with Jon and I’d heard through the grapevine that he was a pleasure to work with. It’s true. WAS IT NICE TO CAPTURE A MORE RELAXED SIDE OF…

Sitting here reading GQ,the morning of my wedding day – my suit is laid out, my shoes polished, I have selected the right watch, and I’ve written my speech. I think I’m ready. As I read your ‘25 Places to Eat Drink Travel Explore’ feature, I saw number 16 was Okinawa Islands, Japan. Just so happens that’s where we are headed for our honeymoon – wish me luck! BEN, VIA EMAIL Reading GQ the morning of your wedding? It’s enough to warm our cold, dead hearts. what doesn’t the internet know?

“HUMAN KNOWLEDGE IS NOT MERELY A COLLECTION OF FACTS THAT A GOOGLE SEARCH CAN SPIT OUT.” At the risk of sounding like one of my parents, I remember when the internet happened. It was 1995. I was two weeks into my first year of university. The hangover from week one was starting to wear off, and I was getting acquainted with the library, when a librarian explained that my login wouldn’t just enable me to use a computer or search the library catalogue, I could send an email. “An email?” I asked, with a long, rising inflection that made very clear I didn’t know what it was, nor was I even sure I could find my way to the end of the word. “An email,” repeated the librarian with the breezy confidence of…
