don’t stop the music

(PHOTOGRAPHY: YU TSAI (PORTRAIT)) If there’s one thing that gets all the editors grooving in their front-row seats at fashion week, it’s the music from the runways. Give us an anthem by Queen or Gloria Gaynor and I swear on my Pradas, whether it’s an editor from America or a stylist from Zambia, we’ll be lip-syncing and tapping our toes in our Manolos. Nothing unites this disparate troop of opinionated, stylish individuals more than a tune that’s universally familiar (Alber Elbaz was a genius at this when he was Creative Director at Lanvin). Thus, for the fourth year running, I’ve kept our all-important September issue to the theme of music. Katy Perry graced our 2015 issue, followed by Kanye West and Kim Kardashian in 2016. The Weeknd was our 2017…

luxe for less

THE QUILTED JACKET While the craft of stitching layers of padding and fabrics together as a protective layer under armour dates back to the 12 century, the fashion world’s everlasting impression of quilting is probably Chanel’s iconic 2.55 bag. This season, quilting has returned to protect the body in the form of jackets—from an iridescent one with power shoulders at Balmain, to Hermès’ utilitarian version, and a leather number with glistening details at, of course, Chanel. Layer it over a shirt and pants for a pulled-together look, or don a head-to-toe quilted ensemble for dramatic effect. OUT AND ABOUT Madison Beer does street-chic by throwing a printed quilted number over everyday denim shorts and a white camisole. Lottie Moss toughens up a classic shift dress with a…

OUT OF THE BOX Fashioned like boxing gloves with quilted nappa leather, the Furla Fortuna bag packs a punch in the style arena. Soft yet sturdy, the roomy bag is distinguished by its solid structure and cushiony appearance. Sleek silver details on its front flap and top handle further bring out the toughness of the sport, and lend a touch of contemporary luxury at the same time. ABOVE AND BEYOND Inspired by rock climbing, the Furla Bellaria is a structured leather mini crossbody that is set to be your new everyday bag. Brass and ruthenium-finished hardware on the front flap resemble the carabiners used in climbing, while hues of cherry, onyx and slate are reminiscent of the natural environment. ■…

hall of flame

What if brands, like bands, released compilations of their bestsellers? A medley of must-haves so you’d no longer have to look back longingly on that dress you missed out on from seasons past, or that bag, or those shoes… For Prada’s stellar fall/winter 2018 collection, Mrs Prada did just that, reintroducing not one, but multiple pieces from the Italian brand’s archives—each updated with a contemporary spin. The indisputable standout item? These smoking-hot wedges, which first came down the vintage automobile-themed spring/summer 2012 runway in the form of stiletto heels. This season, leather flames sprout from the back of wedge heels in highlighter hues, relighting the fire so you can finally fulfil your heart’s desire. The Flame Leather Heel is $1,940 and available at Prada, #01-45/47 Paragon (Tel: 6735…
