the importance of being resilient

I love our pink masthead on this issue’s cover. With October being Breast Cancer Awareness month, it seems only natural that Her World supports this campaign to remind women of the importance of regular self-checks and early screenings. With most of us still working from home, I find that frequent breast self-examination is a lot more achievable. We’re constantly in the comfort and privacy of our homes, so there’s no excuse that we can only do it when we’re in the shower. On page 118, breast cancer survivor Oh Mei Qi tells us how she was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer, plus her journey with chemotherapy and IVF as cancer poses a risk of infertility. And she’s only 29. Mei Qi’s tale of resilience is echoed by our 20 Good Men…

hw endorses: the miu belle bag

In the spirit of the season, with many fashion houses going back to their roots, Miu Miu revisits its signature leather treatment on the Miu Belle bag. Made famous since 2006, the matelasse technique continues to be a distinctive characteristic of the Italian label’s leather goods. The signature folds are achieved by pairing panels of leather with wadding and elastic cloth through a quilting method. Miu Belle’s luxurious touch is further heightened by the use of a charming purse shape as a base, further exemplifying the genesis of Miu Miu as a modern woman’s brand. Legend has it that when Miuccia Prada first launched the label back in 1993, she intended it to be a brand that she herself would wear daily. Created for like-minded and stylish individuals, it’s feminine, always with a…

“My team always smiles at me as we start working on a new season, because they find my creative thought process quite amusing. But you know what? I love the fact that I design a collection thinking unlike anyone else, I was never one to conform…” – Mary Alice Malone of Malone Souliers, known for its references to the conceal-and-reveal sexiness of the ’50s and boyish, charismatic It girls of the ’70s. “ The Cage mini is the lightest minimal sandal for maximal glamour. The perfect expression of modern and joyful femininity.” – Pierre Hardy. The Parisian designer launched his eponymous brand in 1999 and his most iconic shoe is the graphic and innovative Blade stiletto. “Without fantasy there can be no change. You need fantasy to avoid stagnation to move forward.” – Manolo Blahnik.…

if the shoe fits

Are you more of a collector or wearer? Definitely a wearer! I don’t believe in collecting shoes without wearing them. What started your obsession with shoes? Nothing really. I just like having options when it comes to shoes. What was the first pair of shoes that you really wanted and saved up for? It was almost a decade ago! A pair of strappy Isabel Marant heels that were sold out everywhere. I found mine on Vestiaire Collective for about $1,500. Your biggest shoe splurge? My Edgardo Osorio for Salvatore Ferragamo heels with colourful feathers – it probably cost around $2,500. What’s the most special shoe to you? My patchwork embroidered Dior boots (from FW ’18). I’d been hunting it down for very long because it’s such a statement piece, and I finally found a brand new pair on Vestiaire…
