editor’s welcome

I’ve been watching War on Plastic with Hugh and Anita on telly – waste really is something of a concern. We live in a disposable society where things are discarded without a second thought, but things need to change. I like to think that Land Rover owners care a bit more – we tend to keep our vehicles for longer and, rather than chucking them on the scrap heap when they reach 10 or 12 years old, we look after them and replace the bits that are worn out. Those that are beyond repair can yield parts to keep others on the road, reducing the need to manufacture new parts – and the current models use some recycled materials in the build. We all need to do what we can to reduce…

‘okay–but next time, take it faster’

Climbing into someone else’s driving seat to push his rally-spec creation on gravel tracks can be intimidating, especially when said owner spent more than four years building it. When he is sitting in the co-pilot’s seat, it becomes even more daunting. That said, today he’s the one telling me to push it harder. I’m with Andrew Graham, AlliSport’s founder and director, at the superb Walters Arena – home of the Welsh round of the World Rally Championships, the RAC Rally and Wales Rally GB. As I’m about to discover, Andrew’s Ninety is right at home in this punishing terrain. Many readers will already know that AlliSport has worked its way up to being one of the best-known suppliers of performance parts and aluminium fabrication. It historically specialised in upgrades for turbocharged diesel…

about the owner

Andrew Graham was brought home from the maternity hospital in a 1948 Series I – the family’s only car. It was used for his father’s building business and also for family holidays to Scotland and the Pyrenees. Remarkably, his dad still owns it! As a teenager Andrew bought a 1957 86in with an SD1 V8 engine for trialling and greenlaning, before building a 100in hybrid. Other creations include a Td5 Tomcat, in which he won the Outback Challenge in Morocco. His wedding car in 2001 – just before starting AlliSport – was a 110. Always looking to evolve the product range, he bought a 2.4 TDCi Defender in 2007 to use as a test-bed, and he’s driven that around Europe, and to Morocco twice.…
