welcome!

Everyone in the New Idea office knows I’m fascinated by the mystery of Olivia Newton-John’s missing ex, Patrick McDermott. The American cameraman disappeared during a fishing trip in 2005, and there has been wild speculation over whether it was a tragic accident or if he faked his own death. Now, the case is taking another turn, as Patrick’s ex-wife comes forward claiming to have new information on his whereabouts. But what does ONJ think happened? For the full story, head to page 20. It’s such an intriguing circumstance. I, for one, am a sucker for a happy ending and I’m hoping one day he just turns up alive and well. Now that would be a movie-worthy ending to this Hollywood mystery! Never miss any breaking news! Like our Facebook page and…

the voice new era begins!

›The Voice’s new-look judging panel line-up have made their first public appearance – and the awesome foursome already appear to be getting along famously. Fresh out of quarantine, British pop star Rita Ora joined Keith Urban, Guy Sebastian and Jessica Mauboy for a private dinner ahead of the new season. The music megastars met up at Sydney’s exclusive Rockpool Bar & Grill, with the group happily stopping to pose for pictures together. Glamorous host Sonia Kruger also joined the festivities. “Looking forward to slipping back into that red chair tomorrow with these legends,” Guy, who’s the only returning judge from Nine’s previous version, wrote on Instagram afterwards. Rita looked at ease alongside her new Aussie judging panel, and it was apparent that the four had instant chemistry. However, one person who’s reportedly wary of the…

jonathan’s meltdown!

Survivor fans might be happy to know its new season is back on home soil, but New Idea’s insiders maintain that host Jonathan LaPaglia is not! Recently, Network 10 announced the next season will take place in Queensland’s remote township of Cloncurry, since its Fiji production was derailed due to COVID-19 travel restrictions. However, Jonathan, 51, is sceptical! “Jonathan made it very clear previously that filming in Queensland wasn’t feasible and he would prefer to return to Fiji,” dishes the insider. “He has major apprehension about filming in an outback town and not having access to the ocean, where so many of the show’s challenges come to life,” says the source, who reveals the host contacted network executives and the production company to “express his concerns”.…

rebecca breeds snubbed by jodie foster

Aussie actress Rebecca Breeds has landed a big break playing the starring role in Clarice, a TV series continuation of the classic film The Silence of the Lambs. But one person who’s likely not going to give the former Home and Away star, 33, the tick of approval, is the original Clarice Starling, Jodie Foster. When Jodie, who won the Oscar for her performance, was asked if she would tune in to the series, she indicated she wouldn’t be. “I probably … I don’t know…,” Jodie, 58, said, before diplomatically adding, “I’m really happy that Clarice has a whole new life. I’m glad that she continues to have a life moving forward.”…

hugh comes undone!

Troubling new photos of Hugh Grant have insiders wondering if the actor has pushed himself too far! The 60-year-old, who is best known for his cheeky rom-com characters, was seen in London recently, where onlookers say he looked “distressed”. Sources reveal his role in The Undoing – which saw him star as a troubled psychopath and doctor, who is suspected of murder – could be behind his downcast demeanour. “He pushed himself really far for the series – it broke him,” explains the source, who says Hugh hasn’t been the same since. “He’s a shadow of himself and is shutting himself away ever since the show wrapped up.” The insider adds his wife, Anna Eberstein, has grown concerned for her husband of two years.…

melissa leong’s bachelorette secret!

MASTERCHEF KITCHEN TO THE BACHIE MANSION! While Network 10 have confirmed they’ve cast a fresh talent to be their next Bachelor, New Idea hears they might be choosing a familiar face to hand out the roses on this year’s The Bachelorette – enter MasterChef judge Melissa Leong! With fans left seriously unimpressed by Elly and Becky Miles’ sister act season last year, Network 10 is apparently “throwing everything they’ve got” at the new series, which returns later this year. According to an industry insider, producers are keen to emulate the franchise’s successful 2017 season, which saw Sophie Monk play suitress. “Melissa is on the top of their wish list and is already adored by the network. She’s smart, funny and articulate, and gave new life to MasterChef … they want that same success on…
