Madison Classics 45th Annual Spring Jefferson Swap Meet & Car Show April 22-24, 2022 With the arrival of the spring season our minds start switching gears towards the things we love to do in warmer weather – like going to car shows! Fun with a ’59 four-door I am responding to Angelo Van Bogart’s editorial in the Jan. 15 issue where he expressed his desire for a 1959 Chevrolet Biscayne. Well, over 60 years ago, I drove a 1959 Bel Air four-door sedan (above). It was kind of a sleeper, as it had a 348-cid V-8 engine without the flags on the hood. It was a gorgeous car with a Powerglide, padded dash and “reverb.” I’m one of those drag-racing nuts, so we street-raced on the streets of Utica, N.Y. It won a few races, but couldn’t get past my friend’s 1957 Oldsmobile with J-2 (also a four-door). Among the highlights are a pair of Ford GTs, the first being a 2006 Ford GT that was previously owned by NFL Hall of Famer John Elway. A key element for many car club publications is a feature on a club car with the human element added. Wheel Tracks (Vermont Automobile Enthusiasts) is a good example. Earlier this year, the cover car feature was on a late-1920s Willys-Knight Model 70A sedan. Club editor Gary Fiske handled an interview with Tammy Thompson, whose family owns the vehicle. Fiske is part of the several-person team handling editorial duties (gafiske@gmil.com). Tammy said trips of 200-300 miles were not uncommon for the Willys-Knight.
