As he won the Rising Star gong at the National Television Awards, it’s little wonder that EastEnders actor Bobby Brazier’s proud dad, Jeff, 44, broke down.
The 20-year-old model-turned-actor picked up his first TV plaudit at London’s O2 for his portrayal of Freddie Slater – quite the achievement, considering he only joined Albert Square earlier this year.
And as he picked up his gong, young Bobby – looking strikingly like his mother, the late Big Brother star, Jade Goody – he couldn’t contain his emotions, reflecting on what his late mum would have made of it all. As for Jeff, who has helped both Bobby and his younger brother, Freddie, navigate the grief of losing Jade at the tender ages of five and four, the enormity of the moment overcame him.
