As I write this, the first people in the U.S. are getting the COVID-19 vaccine. It is a tremendous milestone filledwith hope for a better year ahead, but it comes at the same moment our nation marks another turning point: more than 300,000 deaths from coronavirus. As the year ends, we wanted to pause and remember the loved ones who have died. There is no magazine that has enough pages to pay tribute to all the people whose lives were cut short; so instead we have told the story of one person from each state in America (see page 44).
