First Printing of the US Constitution Bidding commences on 13 December through Sotheby’s in New York One of only two known copies of the official first-edition printed copy of the US Constitution to remain in private hands, this document carries an impressive estimate of between US$30 million and US$40 million. With a print run of approximately 500 copies by John Dunlap and David Claypoole (only 13 copies are now known to exist), it last appeared at auction more than 125 years ago. It is also referred to as the Adrian Van Sinderen Constitution, having been acquired as a gift for the American businessman, civic leader and book collector in his youth.
