Among these were several of Conde Nast’s titles, and sadly Travel + Leisure pulled out of Australia. It was almost at the same time that Signature Luxury Travel & Style launched. Trying to recruit an editor was difficult, as prospective candidates were dubious we would succeed when major publishers were facing closures. In the end, I took on the role myself, and it has been one of the most satisfying tasks I have undertaken in the 25 years since Signature Media began. I love this title and its content, and the passionate team I work with. Signature has become my baby, well, my 10-year-old baby. Every year our distribution, readership…

puffin patrol

A dramatic land of fjords, steaming hot springs and bubbling geysers, Iceland’s staggering natural bounty is the perfect playground for Atlantic puffins. More than 60 per cent of the global population of these beautiful birds drops in on the country’s sea cliffs annually (May through August) to breed and raise their young. While there can be up to 10 million puffins inhabiting the island at these times, the species has recently been listed as endangered, with some populations experiencing rapid decline due, in part, to illegal trophy hunting expeditions. The good news is the country’s environment minister is taking action, as are organisations like the Audubon Society, which runs an adopt-a-puffin program to help protect the birds.…
