Hometown Homemade With its rich roasted pork, zippy mustard, gooey cheese and that iconic crusty bread, it’s no wonder two cities in the Sunshine State lay claim to the Cuban sandwich. Recipe, Both Tampa and Miami, Florida, consider themselves the home of the Cuban sandwich. The sandwich has historic roots in Tampa, said to be introduced there by Cuban cigar workers in the late 19th century. It stands apart from its rival Miami version with the addition of Genoa salami. Miami’s take on the Cuban is more simple, nixing the salami and stacking up ham, roasted pork, Swiss cheese, pickles and mustard, like our recipe below.
