VOGUE India July 2019

The June issue of Vogue is one of many firsts - starting with our cover. On our first-ever illustrated cover, internationally acclaimed artist Takashi Murakami gives us his interpretation of a world coming together to fight this unprecedented crisis. In other highlights, this is also our first no-production issue, where our fashion story was shot remotely, with contributions coming from across the world. In shops, we feature a collection of all things that make us cheerful, and pieces you can borrow from your partner's closet. Beauty highlights the health and wellness heroes to emerge from the lockdown. Plus a round table, conducted on Zoom, sees fashion designers discussing the future of the business.

Over the years, along with our daily wardrobes, our workplace has also changed our relationship with our jewels. In this era of mix and match, the old rules don’t count, as our jewels run the gamut from fine to faux and old to new. Take, for instance, our wrist stacks that are made of precious tennis bracelets, flea-market finds and smart devices that track our steps—jewellery is no longer status symbol alone, it’s our way of telling our stories. And it demands to be worn…

PAGE TURNER The more you read about her, the more extraordinary Padma Lakshmi’s story seems. The cover story, ‘In her skin’, was an empowering read as it accurately captured the essence of Padma Lakshmi as a global citizen who has stayed attached to her Indian roots. Shivani Kothari, Kolkata DOWN TO EARTH In a room full of colours, I somehow always end up in the aisle of earthy tones. Being a minimalist, ‘Neutral territory’ had me hooked. It was interesting to see how fashion is turning tables as the nude palette gains prominence in the age of neon and animal print. Niyati Bali, Puducherry HANDSPUN HISTORY Khadi has come a long way, from being a symbol of resistance to being updated by Indian designers for the 21st century. The feature ‘The khadi story’ in the May issue…
