kia ora!

One of the great joys of this job is getting to know people I would never normally meet – like our cover star Paula Bennett. I’ll confess, I’ve never voted for her party, but after chatting to the former Deputy PM, I would definitely invite her to one of my parties. (See you at the flat-warming, Paula!) In person, she is generous, a lot of fun and very down-to-earth – the day before our shoot, she realised she hadn’t had a haircut in ages, so she raced off to the men’s barber down the road, who was too scared to touch her proudly grey locks. Paula never got that haircut, but she had a good laugh telling the story. Speaking of politics, last week, I also chatted to 7 Days…

tom & henry’s 30-year feud!

Despite attempts to play down talk of a feud, the simmering tensions between Tom Hanks and Henry “The Fonz” Winkler have hit the headlines again. Director Ron Howard, 66, who is friends with both stars, revealed last week that he was “disappointed” by the actors’ beef. The feud started when Henry, 74, was hired to direct Tom, 64, in the 1989 film Turner & Hooch. However, due to “creative differences”, Henry was fired and replaced, and it’s long been speculated Tom was responsible. “I know it was painful for both of them,” says Ron.…

katie pregnant with baby no.2?

Katie Holmes’ whirlwind romance with her Italian chef has taken a turn for the serious as friends confirm “she’s doing everything she can to get pregnant with him”. The 41-year-old mum-of-one has spared no blushes with her public canoodling with Italian chef Emilio Vitolo, 33, and sources say “she’s thrown caution to the wind” in her bid for a much-longed-for second child. “She begged Jamie [Foxx, her ex] for another child, but he refused. This time she’s not waiting around for ‘the perfect guy’ and she’s throwing herself all in with this man,” dishes a source. “They’ve been exchanging ‘I love you’s for months now – she’s ready.” Katie was spotted on a photo shoot in Central Park last week and an eyewitness exclusively tells Woman’s Day, “She was touching her tummy a…

lily’s week from hell

British actress Lily James has been forced into hiding as she deals with fallout from sensational photos of her cosying up to hunky married actor Dominic West in Rome. Just a day after cancelling her US TV interviews, the Downton Abbey star, 31, pulled the plug on her appearance on The Graham Norton Show. Lily, who is meant to be promoting new Netflix drama Rebecca, is believed to have canned all appearances to avoid questions around the photos with Dominic. The cancellations come after a relatively unscathed Dominic, 51, and his wife Catherine FitzGerald, 49, fronted the media outside their home, insisting their “marriage is strong”.…

paddy’s pot shot ‘were the judges high?!’

Patrick Gower is delighted his documentary On Weed is up for a trio of trophies at the New Zealand Television Awards, but he’s questioned whether those deciding the nominees were fans of him or hash! “I will be honest – I wondered if the judges were on weed when they chose us,” the Three star tells Woman’s Day. “But seriously, it’s awesome for our work to be recognised. The team can have a big night out!” Fellow beloved broadcaster Hilary Barry is “absolutely stoked” to be up for two Best Presenter gongs, with the Seven Sharp star adding, “I’m most proud of being nominated with my partner in crime, Jeremy Wells. I feel very lucky to work with someone so genuinely funny, talented and kind. And he makes a great cup of…
