kia ora!

How lucky are we that events are back? Last week, Woman’s Day was honoured to attend ceremonies celebrating local music and TV, both industries that have suffered in 2020, along with us magazines. Since lockdown, I’ve been to gigs by both Benee and Dave Dobbyn, but the Aotearoa Music Awards (page 24) were my first red carpet. I got a little overexcited and had a celebratory tipple before the pre-drinks (a pre-pre-drink, you might say), which means my recall of proceedings are a little vague. I shudder thinking of how I fangirled over The Beths and Paige, but Kanoa Lloyd assures me I was simply a very merry, friendly soul. Bless her! Regardless, I was a little more sensible at the New Zealand Television Awards (page 22), where it was…

Hilary reigns SUPREME She wasn’t wearing her crown, but Hilary Barry was queen of the New Zealand Television Awards, where she took the TV Personality of the Year trophy from her TVNZ colleague Matty McLean. “Maybe I could use it as a centrepiece in a new tiara,” the Seven Sharp star told Woman’s Day, before celebrating with co-star Jeremy Wells. All in the family! Chris Hemsworth celebrated his mum Leonie’s 60th birthday in style. Sorry, guys – we can’t see any flaws in your family’s genes either! Caffeine fiend Reese Witherspoon posted this snap from the set of The Morning Show, writing, “Wakey wakey. It’s back to work!” Hello, Dolly! Mike Hosking kicked up his heels with a Dolly Parton cut-out before their interview on Newstalk ZB. Leaving a legacy In a touching tribute to her late dad, Bindi…

KNOX & VIVIENNE ALL GROWN UP! Born into enormous wealth and celebrity, one could expect Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s twins Knox and Vivienne Jolie-Pitt to succumb to the all-consuming world they’ve been brought up in. But despite their immense privilege, the siblings, now 12, have grown into independent and unique tweens determined to pave their own path. “Viv has said she wants to be a humanitarian and philanthropist,” a source tells Woman’s Day. “Meanwhile, Knox is showing an interest in becoming a tech engineer and developing software.” While the twins have every entertainment contact at their disposal, the insider says they are focused on more unique hobbies. “Viv has a black belt in karate and can hold her own against the boys,” the source reveals. “She prefers to wear gender-neutral outfits, like baggy sweatshirts and…

they can’t come back from this!

Moving to the US was supposed to be the triumphant return for the Duchess of Sussex – the prodigal daughter coming back more iconic than she could ever have hoped to be as a TV actress. And while she did come back to California the most famous woman in the world, it may be for all the wrong reasons. Meghan, 39, and Prince Harry, 36, are hitting headline after headline worldwide for their eyebrow-raising behaviour, slammed for being social climbers whose actions are nothing more than a slap in the face to Britain’s longest-reigning monarch. ROYAL BREACH Woman’s Day can exclusively reveal that after the duchess was busted recording a political video for anti-Donald Trump organisation The Lincoln Project – involving herself in an election is the ultimate royal etiquette no-no – the…

di’s bodyguard tells all

Amid the fallout from claims Martin Bashir manipulated the truth to gain his bombshell Diana interview, former bodyguard Lee Sansum has spoken out to reveal the mental state of his boss just before she died. According to Lee, who guarded Diana and her sons in St Tropez in the months before she died, she’d been “battered into submission” over her marriage to Charles, and its fallout, likening her to an exhausted boxer. “It’s like when a fighter is knocked down for the last time and they’re just done,” says Lee, 58, who had been employed by Dodi Al-Fayed’s father Mohamed. “She was screwed over so badly,” Lee reveals.…

fears for charles!

He may have just turned 72, but Prince Charles was in no mood to celebrate, according to palace insiders. In fact, it was up there with one of the roughest weeks of his life. Locked down at his Highgrove estate with the Duchess of Cornwall, Charles – along with his aides – were “battening down the hatches” against a torrent of fury from royal fans who had tuned in to season four of Netflix series The Crown. Released last weekend, it depicts an ugly marriage breakdown between Charles and the late Princess of Wales. In the series, Diana’s character is portrayed as childish, naive and unloved by her new husband and his family, and humiliated by his affair with his current wife Camilla. It also graphically depicts Diana’s battle with the eating disorder bulimia. Meanwhile,…
