When I left college, I worked for a while doing 12-hour shifts on a production line at the Colman’s factory in Norwich, helping to make Robinsons soft drinks. Not only was the experience a welcome boost to my ailing bank balance, it was also a good induction into the camaraderie that factory life can sometimes create – we worked hard on admittedly boring tasks, but shared a lot of fun doing it, and I made many long-lasting friends as a result. So I was fascinated to read the stories of Eileen and Ann, who met 69 years ago at the Yardley factory in east London, and what happened when they met up again after so long. come on inside!

A great read I love a rare break to sit with my Woman’s Weekly, be it on the bus, on my lunch break or in my garden! I really enjoyed Marney Chestnutt’s inspiring story about how she and her three best friends climbed Kilimanjaro, and how she practised by climbing local mountains. On a really clear day, I can see Slieve Donard in the Mourne Mountains from my garden swing, so it was a lovely surprise to read that this was one of Marney’s favourites! Well done, girls! Diane Williams, Belfast Paws for thought Here are my dogs Barney and Benson, with my daughter’s Murphy in the middle! My mum buys your magazine, too, and I’d love to surprise her when she sees this. in the garden this week

DO THIS ✿ TRIM ESCALLONIA HEDGES as soon as the flowers have finished. With young hedges, cut flower-bearing shoots close to the ground, to encourage new growth from the base. Regular trimming helps the plant bush out and produce more blooms. GROW THESE ✿ WHILE HOLLYHOCKS are prone to rust, they’re worth growing, with their mass of flower spikes in many colours. Sow at the same time as foxgloves and try the new Hardy’s Digitalis Firebird. Throw seed onto spare ground, thin seedlings and transplant in autumn. CHECK THIS ✿ LOOK FOR SIGNS OF botrytis or mould in flowerbeds. Still, moist air causes this, so the problem is worse in overcrowded beds. Remove rotten flowers and spray infected plants with a Bayer Garden Fungus Fighter Plus, to control and protect for up to three weeks.…

what you’re wearing

Lorraine Porter, 51 Tell us about your look… My red floral jumpsuit came from Next. I bought it to wear on holiday but it’s so easy and comfy that I’m now wearing it all the time! I’ll be investing in a few more so you can say I definitely love a jumpsuit. My red suede wedges are from Clarks and my bag was a holiday buy from Spain. I shop everywhere – it doesn’t matter where something is from, as long as I love it! And the best bit of your body? My legs. Pat Waters, 67 Tell us about your look… This is quite a different look for me. I teach Pilates so you’d normally find me in fitness gear – leggings and T-shirts! I went shopping with a friend in Zara and she pulled out…
