Well we made it to 2021. New Year, new us. Although we’ve been doing pretty well on the homefront in that regard for a while now. I love that as a nation we’re confident enough in our identity to create homes that are all about who we are and where we live. We’re not trying to faithfully recreate Tuscany in suburban Christchurch anymore down to the last classical garden sculpture. I’m calling it ‘Modern Kiwi’. This couldn’t be more evident than our wellness writer Eleanor Ozich’s fabulous new cabins in Piha on page 52. They’re proud Antipodean bush retreats. Water world Bring the south of France poolside with these luxurious Oliver James lilos. Inspired by summers spent at his family’s holiday home in France, the James family spent many happy hours lying on lilos. “I have fond memories of hiding behind the pool house with friends and waiting for my parents to relax completely on their lilos before cannon-balling into the water and soaking them,” he says. His parents got their own back and, when the lilos would puncture, as they inevitably did, enlisted him to patch them with puncture-repair kits and re-inflate them daily, so they were good for another week or so. His sustainable and incredibly stylish version is made from hard-wearing and puncture-proof TPU rubber and Sunbrella UV-resistant fabric. Good news for cheeky children who will…
