The Camera & Imaging Products Association (CIPA) of Japan has released statistics for 2020 showing the true impact of the pandemic in the imaging industry. Total digital camera shipments were down 41.6% by volume to 88,86,292 units and 29.4% by value to 4 billion dollars. Compact cameras and D-SLRs accounted for most of these losses. Mirrorless cameras were also not spared and showed a 25.9% decrease in volume. Nevertheless, in 2020, mirrorless cameras sales overtook D-SLR cameras in units (2.93 million versus 2.37 million). The silver lining was that the average unit sale price of mirrorless cameras continued to rise and left D-SLRs far behind (over 800 dollars for mirrorless and under 400 dollars for D-SLRs). This probably saved the industry in 2020. 2021 is expected to be a year of stabilisation.…

Exceptionally beautiful images Respected Editor, I was really overwhelmed with the SP issue of Feb’21. The Kaleidoscope images in particular were amazing and exceptionally beautiful. The ‘Roti making’ picture on page number 87 was out of the world, with its natural lighting and awesome picturisation. Moreover, I learnt a lot from the ‘create a backdrop’ article. fujifilm announces gfx100s camera

Fujifilm has announced the release of GFX100S digital camera, the fourth large format mirrorless camera in Fujifilm’s GFX System. The camera is powered by Fujifilm’s quad-core X-Processor 4 CPU and utilises its 102MP, back-illuminated large format CMOS sensor. It comes with a choice of 19 exclusive Film Simulation modes and the on-sensor phase detection pixels cover almost 100% of GFX100S’s imaging sensor. It features a newly designed IBIS system which provides up to 6-stops of five-axis in-body image stabilisation. It measures 15 x 10.4 x 8.7 cm and weighs 900 g. The camera can reportedly withstand temperatures as low as 14°F (-10°C) and is dust- and moisture-resistant. fujifilm launches gf 80 mm lens

Fujifilm has announced the release of Fujinon GF 80 mm f/1.7 R WR Lens, an AF-capable f/1.7 interchangeable lens for Large Format camera systems, including Fujifilm GFX System digital cameras, in March 2021. The lens features nine rounded diaphragm blades and comprises of 12 lens elements in nine groups, including one aspherical element and two Super ED elements. It comes with a DC motor that reportedly drives the focus group of six lens elements, including the aspherical element, even when the lens is wide-open at f/1.7 and when depth of field is extremely shallow. Measuring 99.2 mm in length and weighing 795 g, it has filter thread size of 77 mm. fujifilm extends x series lineup

Fujifilm has announced the addition of two new lenses, the XF 27 mm f/2.8 R WR lens and XF 70-300 mm f/4-5.6 R LM OIS WR lens, to its X Series digital cameras. The company has also announced the addition of mirrorless camera X-E4, to its X series lineup. The XF 27 mm is a prime lens with a focal length of 27 mm, featuring an aperture ring with an F-stop scale. The lens includes weather resistance against dust and water and can operate in temperatures as low as 14°F (-10°C). In addition to the standard lens cap, the lens comes packaged with a dome-shaped lens hood (LH-XF27) and a hood cap (LHCP-27).
