plan your next dive adventure

As I write this editor’s letter, I am on assignment in the Caribbean. In fact, this year, our staff has dived in many of the places highlighted in this magazine. Some were assignments that involved long treks and multiple flights to farflung places. Others required throwing gear and tanks in the back of our vehicles and driving a couple of hours to sites closer to home. But wherever the final destination, we love packing our dive bags for the same reasons you do — the chance to experience a thrilling adventure, to dive with old friends and meet new ones, to see breathtaking destinations and to expand our appreciation for other cultures. a liveaboard trip

A Liveaboard Trip 1 There is no wasted time. When you break for lunch or sleep, the boat repositions to the next dive site. Most liveaboards offer five dives a day, with ample time for napping or reading on the sun deck. Some resorts offer the same number of dives, but with boat commutes, you’ll likely lose hammock time. 2 You dive remote areas. Too often, land-based dive operators won’t visit that offshore wreck or pinnacle unless you round up three friends to help offset gas costs. Liveaboards factor in fuel expenses, so weather permitting, experiencing far-off hot spots is already in the game plan. 3 You don’t have to think (much). You came to dive, so you do. You don’t have to worry about missing the boat or making a plan for…
