We will be celebrating 24 years of Road Tour adventures, and I thought it might be interesting to get some input from our readers and the folks who have spent many miles on past Road Tours with me. Our car for 2019 is going to be a 1955 Ford sedan built custom style by Troy Ladd and his fantastic crew at Hollywood Hot Rods in Burbank, California. Since the car is going to be on the West Coast, I thought maybe we should start at the L.A. Roadsters Father’s Day Show in June. With the L.A. Roadsters back at the reins of the event, I think…

for starters

♦ The fun part about writing an editorial is that you can speak your peace. Now, I have no intention of bringing the world down upon my earlobes so the following is merely my opinion and doesn’t have to be yours, and I can respect that … but! For starters, I have had the incredible good fortune through my dayjob to meet many (not all) of the hot rod builders in this country (and some abroad) over the past five decades. One thing is for certain, this world is loaded with talent, incredible talent. For fear of leaving someone out I will just leave it at that and state that every corner of this country is represented by many and each has made his (or her) mark. It doesn’t really matter…

★750hp Cammer Mercury Racing has partnered with Roadster Shop to bring the revolutionary SB4 DOHC engine to the custom car market, available exclusively through Roadster Shop. Based on the GM LS7 engine block, Mercury has developed a dual-overhead cam four-valve head to take the LS platform to the next level. The four-valve head allows for significantly improved intake and exhaust port flow over the traditional two-valve design, resulting in improved driveability, idle quality, and most importantly a package that revs to 8,000 rpm, making 750 hp. an ode to pete

Doesn’t matter what era you were born, the things you did and experienced as a child played a part in shaping the person you became later in life—whether it’s a fear of something caused by a traumatic event, a scary movie your cousins forced you to watch, a fascination from something as simple as a bubble gum trading card, or a day spent at the races with your dad. Many of us can relate to the latter, as the exposure to motorsports racing throughout the decades has led us to this fascinating world of hot rods—and Barron Guss is no exception to the phenomena. By day, Barron is the head of a staffing corporation in Honolulu, Hawaii; it’s when he sheds his suit and tie that the kid growing up in…
