National Treasure is a fictional piece inspired by the calamitous Jimmy Saville inquiry mop-up, Operation Yew Tree. It’s told from the standpoint of Paul Finchley (Robbie Coltrane), an ageing light-entertainment fixture put out to pasture on a daytime quiz show and charged with a rape dating back to 1993, of which he claims to have no recollection. The couple bought the 1970s home despite the leaky roof and canary yellow kitchen. ‘The other prospective buyers didn’t realise what a gem it was,’ says Simone.
