How did you approach ‘Radar Love’?
“The whole rhythm is like an old blues song, an up-tempo shuffle, but after playing the song two or three times you think, ‘Well, I’ve heard that about a thousand times so let’s do something else.’ I started playing it on the snare drum instead of the hi-hat and all of a sudden everything came together. Then when it comes around again, I always want to do something different, so I started playing a jazzy thing on the cymbals. Nowadays a producer would say, ‘Stop it, I want you to do the same thing as before!’ It was just a different time, you were pretty free to do whatever you wanted.
