the dales in lockdown

EMMERDALE MONDAY & WEDNESDAY / ITV / 7PM / SOAP A dapting to change has always been part and parcel of working on a soap. An actor’s sudden illness or the unpredictable British weather means scripts often have to be rejigged at a moment’s notice. But Emmerdale has brought a new meaning to the motto ‘Keep calm and carry on’. As coronavirus continues to upend life as we knew it, and the show’s bank of episodes filmed before the pandemic runs dry, cast and crew have pulled out all the stops to ensure that, for the time being at least, we get our regular dose of Dales drama. SPRINGWATCH TUE-FRI / BBC2 / 8PM / EPS 9-12 of 12 / NATURE As TV Times chats to Springwatch presenter Iolo Williams, it’s impossible not to be swept up by his passion and enthusiasm for our natural world. This year, the proud Welshman, along with Chris Packham and Gillian Burke, have been busy bees presenting the BBC2 series live from their home turfs because of lockdown restrictions. Iolo is based in a friend’s garden near his home just outside Newtown, Powys, while Chris is at his New Forest house and Gillian is reporting from Cornwall. As this season of Springwatch draws to a close, we asked Iolo, 57, to turn photographer for us and capture some of the wonderful wildlife inhabiting his own back garden – we love his six favourite shots (see right)! the search for justice

SITTING IN LIMBO NEW MONDAY / BBC1 / 8.30PM / DRAMA Anthony Bryan was eight years old when in 1965 he travelled from the West Indies, on his older brother’s passport, to join his mum who was working as a seamstress in London. Then 51 years later, the life Anthony had made for himself in the capital was turned upside down after he applied for a passport to visit his elderly mother who had returned to Jamaica. Despite having been in London for five decades, and paying his taxes as a painter and decorator, there was no record of Anthony being a British citizen. Sent to an immigration detention centre and threatened with deportation, it was then left to Anthony to prove his right to remain here to the Home Office. Anthony’s story is at the…
