(PICTURE: JAMES MCNAUGHT)SPRING has finally arrived, after a grim and grey winter that, to me, seemed to last an eternity. With the coming of warmer weather and longer, lighter days, one of the things that really thrills me about the shift in seasons is the colour green… Suddenly it’s everywhere. From the sprouting grass on lawns to the new leaves on trees, at this time of year the shade crowds into our subconscious in all its verdant, vibrant glory, packed with positivity and the promise of things to come.As our thoughts turn to growth and renewal, so too we shift our attention away from the interiors we inhabit, looking beyond our own four walls to focus on the world outside. The blurring of these two environments and how we transition…

a place in the sun

Engulfing arms typify Cane-line’s ‘Mega’ outdoor seating collection. Designed by Danish brand ByKato – which, until now, has only created indoor pieces – the range includes lounge chairs, a sofa and a daybed big enough for two. High-tech materials mean that just an hour after the most tropical of downpours, these seats will be dry enough to sit on again. Daybed, £2,268; lounge chair, £1,572; sofa, £2,442, all Aram Store (aram.co.uk).ROCK ONBelgian furniture brand Manutti’s ‘Duo’ outdoor rocking chair by Koen Van Extergem is a wonderfully pared back version of the classic rocker, with a refined aluminium frame. It comes in this dark ‘Anthracite’ finish, as well as a white ‘Pepper’ tone. £840, Go Modern (gomodern.co.uk).PEBBLE DASHWedgwood’s new launch is almost unrecognisable from its traditional jasperware; only the blue-and-white palette…

BUNDLE OF JOYWalter Knoll’s ‘Bundle’ sofa takes its form from that of a folded blanket, gathered inwards. ‘By turning and folding fabric, we created a 3D object, a spur-of-the-moment sculpture,’ explain its designers, Austrian brand Eoos. The ‘Bundle’ comes in two-and three-seater versions, as well as a variety of modular pieces that can be configured into corner sofas of every shape and size. From £5,410 (walterknoll.de).CURVE APPEALFounded in 2017, Copenhagen brand Raawii’s first launch consists of just three objects – a jug, a bowl and a vase – in a few block colours. ‘We wanted a strong palette where every item has personality, but would also work as a collection,’ explain founders Nicholai Wiig Hansen and Bo Raahauge Rasmussen, who took inspiration from the rounded shapes and bold tones of…

building worlds

Inspired by architect Ricardo Bofill’s La Muralla Roja and Richard England’s playful buildings in Malta, artist Charlotte Taylor (right) began creating her series of experimental architectural prints. The ‘Fictional Interiors’ reference Postmodernist, Brutalist and utopian buildings in a dreamy palette of dusky peaches and shadowy brights, and are whipping up quite the storm, with the designs already stocked at Print Club London, Life Store London, Brighton’s Unlimited Gallery and French online concept store Cool Machine.Next up is a collaboration with an Italian brand for Milan’s furniture fair, as well as Taylor’s task of evolving her steady stream of design ideas. ‘I am exploring how to transform my works into the sculptural realm, to give them a stronger sense of reality,’ she explains. ‘I’m interested in retail, set and stage design.…

inside story rosenthal

Since its early days, Rosenthal has had a knack for spotting design talent in its ascendancy and harnessing creative sparks‘Falda’ vase by Sebastian Herkner, £470.50‘Mellow’ table by Diana and Emmanuel Dietrich, £4,630‘Bay’ sofa in ‘Aubergine’ fabric, £9,510For a porcelain manufacturer with a history dating back to 1879, it would be easy for Rosenthal to rest on its laurels. After all, some of its original products, such as the elegantly frilly ‘Maria’ tableware set from 1916, designed by founder Philip Rosenthal for his wife, remain in production and are bestsellers. However, the Rosenthal of today, while still based close to its roots in the Bavarian town of Selb – with a factory designed by Bauhaus master Walter Gropius – is concerned with innovation. From its current headquarters, a building designed by…
