My travels over the last few years have shown me just how satisfying, relaxing, healthy, private and fun belonging to some of the world’s best coastal residential resort communities can be. In fact, the popularity of master planned luxury developments with the best ocean views and amenities makes perfect sense. The peace, beauty and restorative power of the ocean will always be a constant. However, the tastes and honestly, the requirements, of the ocean home buyers I’ve met are oddly enough, more holistic than ever. Of course, many of today’s buyers want to live in…

@oceanhomemag Expert Guest Blogger According to John MacDonald, AIA, the principal and owner of Morehouse MacDonald and Associates, St Kitts in the Caribbean is beautiful – volcanic, lush in parts, arid and wind-scored in others and relatively underdeveloped. The history of St. Kitts is a fascinating blend of pirates, European control, war and eventual independence. The architecture, like its people, is whimsical yet enduring, and there is lots of local stone (called Nevis stone). It’s hard to build a home there. But so worth it. oceanhomemag.com/home-design/st-kitts-a-love-story/ 5 Perfect Punta Mita Vacation Experiences A sought-after resort development for luxury seekers who desire a strong sense of community, luxurious amenities, and the most beautiful beaches, Punta Mita is a private, gated escape just outside of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, waiting to be enjoyed. island escape

Where does a hard-driving, people-pleasing vice president of human resources go when she wants to unwind? If you’re Robin Kranich, executive vice president at Stamford, Conn.-based Gartner Inc., you head straight to Figure Eight Island off North Carolina’s coast. It’s private, serene and unpopulated. Developed during the 1960s and ‘70s by two brothers from an old Wilmington family, it sports its own special pedigree. To breathe new life into the unbuilt island, the brothers imported some of the state’s finest designers – rockstars, really – from North Carolina’s stellar cadre of modern architects. First, landscape architect Richard Bell laid out roads and lots, preserving patches of maritime forest and marshland for the future. Then architects Robert Oxenfeld, Heywood Newkirk, Henry Johnston, and Ligon Flynn began designing homes for owners who paid a paltry…

The color palettes and the use of local materials reflect the textures and colors of the views, creating a sense of place that is quintessentially South Carolina Lowcountry.”–Joni Vanderslice, President, J. Banks Design Group Timbers Kiawah - Ocean Club & Residences is the first and only residence club on Kiawah Island, South Carolina. J.
