A formal extradition application for the Gupta brothers was submitted to the Central Authority in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said yesterday.
Atul and Rajesh Gupta are wanted in South Africa on charges of money laundering and fraud.
“We can confirm that a formal extradition application was submitted to the Central Authority in the UAE. This is within the 60-day period from the date of the arrest of the Gupta brothers, as set out in the Extradition Treaty between South Africa and the UAE,” said NPA spokesperson, Mthunzi Mhaga.
