a special moment in royal history

What’s not to love about this photo, as Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, stares adoringly at her newborn second son, just hours after the little prince made his long-awaited debut to the world. We pored over every beautiful image long into the wee hours of Tuesday morning, loving each and every candid family moment that was captured: from the way Prince William’s hand rested gently on Kate’s back as she walked down the hospital steps to Princess Charlotte’s sassy wave to the crowd. Our coverage starts on page 4.…

‘welcome to the family’

Departing St Mary’s Hospital in London around 6 PM on April 23, Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, showcased the easy confidence of third-time parents. With their new baby boy—whom Kate had delivered just seven hours earlier—strapped snugly into his car seat, the couple briefly greeted photographers and fans before heading home to nearby Kensington Palace.“[We’re] very happy, delighted,”William told the gathered crowd, adding,“We didn’t keep you waiting too long!”Of course, even with the smoothest births and the most dazzling post-delivery debuts, parenthood is never a breezy stroll—and those first steps out of the hospital lead into a whole new life and the challenges of welcoming a new sibling for big brother Prince George, 4, and Princess Charlotte, who turns 3 on May 2. Holding up three fingers, the…

a royal good time

Addressing his grandmother the Queen, from the stage of the Queen’s Birthday Party Concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall on April 21, Prince Harry made a good point: “Tonight we are celebrating The Queen’s Birthday. But Your Majesty, if you do not mind me saying, you are not someone who is easy to buy gifts for.” Indeed. While the Queen enjoyed performances from the likes of Kylie Minogue, Sting, Sir Tom Jones, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Shawn Mendes for her 92nd birthday celebrations (her actual birthday—as opposed to the “official” celebration in June), she was in the company of her four children as well as their partners and children in the royal box. But there were a few notable absences: the Duke of Edinburgh, 96, who is still recovering from…

inside his sudden death

Fans of Swedish musician Avicii were stunned on April 20 when the 28-year-old was found dead while on holiday in Muscat, Oman. The prolific, Grammy-nominated DJ and producer, born Tim Bergling, had been at the forefront of the explosion of electronic dance music (EDM) across the globe for the past decade, with a string of hit singles, including the song for which he is best known, the 2013 chart-topper, “Wake Me Up”. While a cause of death was still to be announced at time of print, two post-mortems conducted in Oman had led to the finding that there was “no criminal suspicion” involved. Just a day earlier, Avicii had been enjoying himself with friends aboard a yacht off the shore of Muscat, looking relaxed and happy. His death comes two years…

absolutely smitten’

STROLLING THROUGH MIT CAMPUS in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on April 18, Professor Neri Oxman kept a low profile in a black trench coat and oversized sunglasses. Thrust into the spotlight since news broke of her budding romance with Brad Pitt, Oxman is “extremely uncomfortable with the media attention and feels that her personal life has now come under a microscope,” a friend of the architectural designer, tells Us Weekly. “Brad feels badly about this of course, but he is powerless to stop it.” He is still keen, however, to pursue the relationship. Like his friend George Clooney’s human-rights lawyer wife, Amal Clooney, Oxman is a highly educated expert renowned in her field. Described as “genius and gorgeous” by a source, Oxman, 42, could be a similar match for the 54-year-old Pitt as…
