ball in her court

By her own admission Sam Kerr isn’t a “girly girl” who relishes getting frocked up or being in the makeup chair. But the minute she got hold of a soccer ball at WHO’s Most Beautiful People photoshoot, the Matildas’ star striker fell straight into her comfort zone. Her effortless style, amazing talent and fierce determination make her a natural beauty to be admired. We’ll watch in awe as she headlines our Australian team in the Asian Cup, starting on April 8. Let’s hope we see a few of those famous Sam Kerr celebratory cartwheels and backflips! Emma Nolan,…

oprah my next moves

Oprah Winfrey has had a very interesting 2018, and the year is barely three months old. In January, when the billionaire media mogul declared“a new day is dawning”during her speech accepting the Golden Globes’Cecil B. DeMille Award, millions of people were hoping her words were a sign she would launch a US presidential run, with #Oprah2020 sweeping the internet.“I was really surprised. I was humbled,” says Winfrey, 64.“I know everything means something. I thought,‘Is this a sign?’”So far, she has said she doesn’t intend to run for office despite the wave of support (and a couple of taunts from President Trump). The calls for her to run have had an effect, though.“What it has given me is a renewed sense of a desire to serve,” she says.“And not just my…

what could change her mind about the white house

Winfrey says the support she received after the Golden Globes gave her pause.“I went into prayer,” she says.“‘God, if you think I’m supposed to run, you gotta tell me, and it has to be so clear that not even I can miss it.’ And I haven’t gotten that.” Winfrey is looking for the kind of clarity she felt when she decided to support Barack Obama for President.“I didn’t think twice about it,” she says. When President Trump recently called Winfrey “insecure,”she simply responded with shrugged shoulders and no comment. Prior to the Trump tweet, Winfrey told WHO, “I do not feel 140 characters or 280 characters is the place to express your passionate beliefs and concerns, so I don’t. I also feel if you want to be heard, don’t talk so…

our last hurrah!

Prince William seems to have a taken a (shamrock) leaf out of little brother Prince Harry’s Public Display of Affection book. During St Patrick’s Day celebrations with Irish Guards in London on March 17, William broke away from his usual protocol of staying close to wife Kate without making physical contact, by wrapping a protective arm around the eight-months-pregnant duchess. His sweet gesture—which mirrors Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s more touchy-feely style—did not go unrewarded, earning him a look of love from Kate. With the duchess about to go off the radar on maternity leave ahead of the birth of their third child, the couple appeared relaxed, sharing a drink (Guinness for William; water for Kate) with members of the 1st Battalion of the Guards regiment. Catching up with the Irish…

our modern marriage

Eleven years into their polyamorous relationship, Younger actor Nico Tortorella, who identifies as bisexual and his lesbian girlfriend, Bethany Meyers, have tied the knot. “Just married. For real,” instagrammed Tortorella (see p. 38) alongside a photo of the couple in their “gender-bending” wedding ensembles. In an article written for LGBTQ publication Them, lifestyle entrepreneur Meyers said the ceremony on March 9 was “the day I dreamed of yet not the day I imagined, and I couldn’t be happier.” Referring to their “neo-Grecian drape” wedding outfits—a dress with trousers for Meyers and a tux complete with a gown for Tortorella—the 29-year-old actor added “the looks are everything we’ve ever dreamed of … in this relationship, we both wear the pants and the dress.” Despite his non-traditional lifestyle, Tortorella revealed marriage was always…

life after the house of horrors

The call came from a 17-year-old girl who said that she and her siblings were being held captive by their parents in their Perris, California, home. But police officers responding to the scene in the early hours of Jan. 14 were unprepared for what they found: 13 children born to David and Louise Turpin were living inside a foul, rubbish-strewn suburban house. Three had been shackled to beds and furniture, and all but one were severely malnourished. The shocking abuse made headlines as neighbours anguished over the plight of the kids found inside what became known as “the house of horrors.” “What they went through,” said Mark Uffer, CEO of the Corona Regional Medical Center, where the adult children were later treated, “is not normal.” Now they finally have a chance at…
