No matter where you stand on royalty, it’s hard to not be impressed by Queen Elizabeth II’s 70-year reign as monarch of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth that Australia is a part of. To honour her Platinum Jubilee, a four-day long weekend in the UK played host to a series of glittering events across the land, and I for one was glued to the festivities. Personally, my highlights included the RAF’s flyover in the shape of the number 70 after Trooping the Colour, the drone show during the Platinum Party at the Palace concert and, of course, 4-year-old Prince Louis’ shenanigans during the events. The sass! Especially adorable, though, was seeing the beautiful bond he shares with his mother the Duchess of Cambridge. My own two boys are big, grown-up men…

With the words “Thank you, Ma’am” glittering high above Buckingham Palace on Saturday night thanks to an impressive drone display, it was clear the Queen couldn’t have pulled off a better party in celebration of her 70 years as sovereign. Despite their highly-anticipated return to British shores, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle spent most of the jubilee weekend keeping a low profile and relishing in private moments with family and friends. Their only public, official engagement was the Thanksgiving service at St Paul’s Cathedral, where they were seated far from their immediate family. In times gone by, Harry sat front and centre with William and Kate for such occasions. While celebrations for her namesake continued, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor celebrated her very first birthday at a low-key garden party on June 4.
