THURSDAY, AUGUST 11 PLAY IN THE SAND DAY Have fun in the sun! Make a beach day even more fun by building a sandcastle! The secret, says Karen Fralich, founder of sand-sculpting company SANDQUBE: “Start with a very wet, compacted pile of sand. There’s no such thing as too much water.” Once you’ve got a big pile of wet sand, begin shaping it with your hands. And when it comes to tools, Fralich suggests raiding your kitchen for a knife, fork, spoon and straw. “You can use the fork for texture, the spoon to scoop out holes, the knife to cut lines for castles and the straw to blow away crumbs!” RIDDLE OF THE WEEK Gone with the wind I am easy to lift but hard to throw.
