MUIR BREAKS KELLY HOLMES’ BRITISH RECORD British women runners light up the Diamond League in Monaco There may not have been many races this summer to celebrate, but the track at the Diamond League in Monaco was on fire when Laura Muir, European 1500m Champion, gained another British record – in the 1,000m – in a time of 2:30.82. This beat Kelly Holmes’ record, which has stood since 1997. OXYTOCIN UPDATE: PEACE, LOVE AND A HAPPY GUT New research featured in The Journal of Physiology shows that oxytocin, known as the love hormone, plays an important role in mitigating the effects of stress on our digestion. Stress disrupts gastro-intestinal functions and causes a delay in gastric emptying, causing issues like bloating, discomfort, nausea and diarrhoea. Oxytocin, an anti-stress hormone, is released from the hypothalamus in the brain, which acts to counteract the effects of stress.
