FEBRUARY IS GENERALLY the moment when it dawns on you that if you want to go sailing next summer, you'd better at least go and look at your boat, establish it still exists and plan a few odd jobs. I recall when I had my boat in the UK that this preliminary visit was always deeply disheartening. I generally did not have a dehumidifier aboard and the visit would usually involve hunching in the cabin with billows of steam issuing from my mouth and a dew drops forming on my nose, trying to reassure myself that winter did not last forever. This year my boat is in warmer climes and this makes for a slightly less awful climate for varnishing, etc. Yet my priority is unquestionably getting a new tender.…
