I’m so excited to be able to share my new craft with you. I call it flowers-on-tulle or dried flower embroidery – it’s like traditional embroidery, but using flowers, foliage and other natural plantbased materials as your thread. Flowers-on-tulle embroidery came from my love of making combined with my obsessive habit of bringing nature into my home. In winter, I love to make decorative wreathes with any greenery I can find. It was this wreath-making that led me to the idea of flowers-on-tulle embroidery. One day, I used a garden sieve, or riddle – the tool for getting small stones out of soil – as a frame to weave my greenery around. I tucked the ends of the stalks into the wire mesh to keep the stems in place. That…

In his final year, Brett Mickan’s high school guidance counsellor gave him a career survey to fill out. “On tallying my results, she announced that my ideal profession was an interior designer. I researched it and in doing so, decided she was correct,” says Brett. “I was 17 when I began my first design course at what is now Design Centre Enmore. On completion, I transferred to the National Institute of Dramatic Art to study set and costume design. I then began my freelance design career, working at several Sydney theatres and many NSW regional theatres, movies and television,” says Brett. “I soon found I could combine my passions and create interiors with a theatrical edge.
