Australian Home Beautiful January 2022

Home Beautiful is every home decorator's best friend. With more pages dedicated to homes than any other Australian title, Home Beautiful guides readers towards transforming their own homes into the kind of showplace they see within the magazine.  We demystify the rules of decorating and empower readers to become their own savvy decorators. Covering 5 main pillars - indoors, outdoors, renovate, decorate and food, Home Beautiful is a magazine catered to those who love the home they’re in.

Fresh focus I always love giving my home a refresh at the start of a new year. Clearing away the Christmas decorations feels so therapeutic, especially when I see all the free space I have – ready to be restyled with light, summery homewares and accessories. It’s a great time to try something new, too – think of it as the decorator’s version of a New Year’s resolution: I will play with a new colour; I will experiment with pattern; I will set the table beautifully for dinner once a week, and so on. With that in mind, we’ve set about giving Home Beautiful a bit of a refresh, too. For example, you might notice this page looks different. Each month, we’ll feature a new textile here, to show you all…

MEET THE HB TEAM VICTORIA KINGSBURY, DEPUTY EDITOR How did you get your start in the home and interiors magazine industry? “My first magazine job was as an editorial assistant on a title called Your Home in the UK.” What is your favourite section of HB? “The gardens section, without a doubt. I only have a small courtyard and I dream of growing my own bountiful cottage garden some day.” If walls could talk, what would they say about your home decorating style? “Well, with two young kids, they’d say it’s messy! But I do love to display keepsakes and old family treasures. And books… there are piles of books everywhere I turn – I usually have a few on the go.” Do you have a favourite HB cover or feature? “I really loved our recent Christmas cover,…

steal the style hamptons way

Natalee Bowen is an interior design powerhouse. Not only is she the founder of interior design firm Indah Island, but her work has been featured on Open Homes Australia, she’s a judge on the new television series Renovate or Rebuild and is part of the team behind the building company, Hampton Homes Australia. “My Dad was a builder, so from as far back as I remember, I was with him on site collecting bits and pieces of material, bringing them home and creating little homes out of them. My bedroom was my styling haven and I used to move everything around all the time,” says Natalee. “‘Indah’ is an Indonesian word for beautiful and ‘island’ communicates the holiday-at-home lifestyle that we strive to provide for all our clients,” says Natalee.…

What do you love most about Hamptons style? “The Hamptons style is a broad and flexible spectrum. Whether you’re drawn to the lush tropical aesthetic or prefer a high-end glamorous look… every personality has the opportunity to shine through in a Hamptons home!” What is the key to designing a Hamptons home that caters to the Australian lifestyle? “The Hamptons style of home we know in Australia fits easily into our coastal and rural landscape. The wide verandahs provide shade while French doors are the perfect invitation for indoor/outdoor entertaining.” What are your go-to colours, fabrics and finishes? “I love all shades of blue and green and I don’t believe that colours need to be matchy-matchy. When it comes to styling and furniture, we use a lot of natural textures, particularly jute…
