Sleeping beauty There’s nothing lovelier than climbing into a beautifully made bed with fresh sheets. While I know most people share this sentiment, what I find fascinating is how each of us has a different formula for the perfect bed. Starting with the mattress: do you prefer spring or memory foam? Firm or soft? And, of course, there’s the matter of mattress toppers. Wool, down, foam… we have are options aplenty. When it comes to sheets, I’ve still not chosen a side in the linen vs cotton debate. I have both and go with what I’m in the mood for each week. What does a day at Sachs & Cornish look like? “A day at our shop involves helping our customers choose options to complement their existing home furnishings.” What makes your store unique? “We stock a huge range of individually selected vintage, antique and new interior design textiles and lamp bases. We also offer a custom-made service for small soft furnishings and lampshades.” What inspired you to open Sachs & Cornish? “We were inspired by our years of living in the United Kingdom and Europe, where we loved seeing custom-made vintage and antique objects make homes more personal and interesting.” What trends do you predict will take off this year? “Classical patterns (chintz and indiennes) and vintage textile – they always add extra depth that gives an inviting and original feel. My relationship with textiles has been quite a journey. Although I feel I have always had an innate understanding of textiles, in the early days of my career I definitely lacked confidence when using them. By continuing to work with textiles over many years, and undertaking extensive research, I have educated my eye and gradually built up my skill and confidence. With the right amount of interest, patience and passion, this is something anyone can do.
