yoga teacher training

BEING A YOGA TEACHER is a solemn responsibility. A teacher guides the student along the often strange and winding path of understanding. They may shepherd many students along similar paths at the same time, noticing one and all. They build the individual physically, emotionally and spiritually, while building their classes into tight-knit groups, sometimes even warm and loving families. It is, as everyone in this magazine would agree, one of the world’s most rewarding and fulfilling vocations, personally and professionally. And as every qualified yoga teacher on the planet, bar none, would agree, their yoga teacher training was a profoundly enlightening and joyful experience personally. If yoga teacher training is on your bucket list, turn to page 67 for everything Yoga TT. And it’s that time of year we exchange gifts based on…

no chaturangas at church

You read right. The 900 properties owned by the Anglican Diocese of Sydney as well as commercial assets leased from the church across Sydney, the Blue Mountains, Southern Highlands and South Coast are aiming to ban the practice of yoga on their premises, along with same sex marriage ceremonies and traditional indigenous rituals. Apparently, the practice of yoga may lead Christians to worship other gods, and therefore any practices that go beyond the postures (such as meditation, chanting and other Hindu traditions) will be banned due to their inconsistency with Anglican values. The proposal to ban these practices was put forward by the Religious Freedom Reference Group, chaired by Bishop Michael Stead, who says, “The principle is simple – churches should not be compelled to use their property for purposes…

full moon rising

WHEN I LIVED IN THE US IN 1980, I was introduced to shamanic journeying. I loved this practice, which taught me how to receive my own spiritual guidance by travelling outside of time and space to meet with helping and compassionate spirits. Using the ancient power of ceremony, shamans move beyond ordinary thinking into unseen realms, which are filled with great beauty and spiritual healing energies that can empower our lives. In these realms, shamans can see disharmonious energy patterns that need to be rebalanced in order to improve the health of people and the planet Ram Dass . And meditates it is also in through his RV ceremony beside that shamans receive guidance on how to restore harmonious energies—from the natural world, helping . spirits, and their own inner wisdom.
