who’s who

CAPTAIN: MIKE DAKIL Mike grew up in Dallas, Texas, where he was always fishing. One taste of the offshore gamefishing scene was enough to hook him into a career path. He worked gameboats off Rockport, then got his Captain’s licence in 2006 and started travelling and fishing, including hotspots in the Virgin Islands and Mexico. Mike moved to Kona in 2012, working as deckie for Capt Marlin Parker and now with Capt Chris Donato aboard Benchmark. SUBSCRIBER: CAMERON HUNT Cameron’s favourite fishing spot is the Cassowary Coast near his hometown of Cairns. There he chases light-tackle species including marlin, sailfish, wahoo and dolphinfish along the reef edges aboard his centre-console trailerboat. His favourite days are getting friends and family hooked-up to exciting fish, but the most satisfying was the day they caught two…

record integrity

The great thing about fishing according to IGFA rules is that it levels the playing field for all anglers throughout the world. To hold an IGFA world record for one of the popular gamefish is a great honour. Admittedly, there are opportunities for easy world records – for obscure species, or using line classes that few would bother with – but all…

IGFA President retires Rob Kramer, President of IGFA, will be stepping down after nearly 15 years of leadership at the most well-known nonprofit recreational fishing organization in the world. In an announcement in late March, Mr Kramer said he will continue in the role of President until August, helping to ensure a smooth transition to new leadership. After many years of meetings and travel, Rob is retiring from the position to spend more time with his family, and to explore new challenges. “We have accomplished much at IGFA over the last decade and a half, broadening our international reach and refocusing the organization on its original founding purposes,” he said. “It is time now to turn over the helm to new leadership that can continue the evolution well into the 21st century.” “Mr Kramer’s…
