construction sight

A superyacht launch may get all the balloons and bubbles, but many of a project’s greatest spectacles take place quietly, in a shed, witnessed by a few staff in overalls. Heesen has allowed photographers in to capture a few of these tableaux – including this dramatic engine installation – during the build of its 50 metre Project Triton in Oss, the Netherlands. The steel class boat will be sistership to Omaha and has begun outfitting. The Clifford Denn exterior is inspired by classic car design, while the Reymond Langton interior will be clean and linear. On track for a February 2020 delivery, we hope her splashdown can compete with the marvels of her construction. heesenyachts.com This month : how Dunia Baru sailed to the rescue, what to look out for at…

refit for purpose

The bustling refit market shows no signs of slowing down, with project numbers up year on year. Between September 2017 and August 2018, 408 refits were carried out, compared with 390 over the same period in 2016-17. Refits were most common on boats measuring between 24m and 30m, with 116 of these going under the knife in 2017-18, an increase of 102 over previous year. UK yard Pendennis revealed that while 2017 was the busiest year in the history of its refit division, this is likely to be matched by 2018’s figures. The builder’s refit division, which specialises in major projects, has 11 booked in this season alone. These include refits on the classic 42m schooner Mariette of 1915 , a grand 75m German-built motor yacht and the Bill Tripp-designed 39m…

eye opener

“In watching some of the things she did I would literally have to turn away from the camera because it would get to me,” said Paul Newman of his wife Joanne Woodward, who starred in his 1968 directorial debut Rachel, Rachel . In a break from the intense filming schedule, Newman is pictured here on a fishing trip in the Florida Keys. Clearly this relaxed attitude paid dividends: the movie was nominated for four Academy Awards and won two Golden Globes, including best director for Newman and best actress for Woodward. His partnership with Woodward, which lasted for 50 years until Newman’s death, was itself one of Hollywood’s greatest success stories. “I have steak at home. Why should I go out for hamburger?” he famously quipped when asked about his marriage.…
