Our Voyage section this month got me dreaming. Not even of far-off powder beaches, long reaches under sail or zipping into some cool beach bar in a tender, but just getting on a airplane. There was a moment in September when I was due to fly to Italy after six months of being grounded and it caused me genuine anxiety. I had forgotten how to travel. Where had I stuffed my perfect-for-the-overhead-locker weekend bag? How much toothpaste did I need? Did I have enough time to charge all of the 14 devices I’m convinced I need before I leave the house? The trip was cancelled at the last minute due to a surge of Covid-19 cases, which was handy as I had packed eight shirts and no underwear. I’m hoping…

Olga Dromas Olga has spent most of her career as a yacht photographer, having broken into the industry at a young age. Before settling down in the South of France she lived in London and Paris, studying and working as assistant photographer. For this issue, she shoots Prince Bernhard van Oranje (page 122). Did this assignment present any particular challenges? I’ve always loved shooting portraits so it was so nice to combine my passion with my experience in yacht photography. It can sometimes be challenging to shoot non-professional models, but Prince Bernhard was great and very stylish – a real pleasure What was your best-ever shoot? My husband and I recently shot Ragnar in Iceland, which was amazing. It’s a stunning yacht with an amazing crew and we were in an insane landscape with challenging,…

A hat-trick for Feadship Three secretive in-build superyachts have taken to the water for the first time during a busy month at Feadship. The 118-metre superyacht Project 1010, about which little is known, hit the water at the yard’s metal construction facility near Rotterdam. One of the largest superyachts currently under construction, Project 1010 will become the Dutch builder’s biggest yacht to date when completed. The 76.5-metre Feadship yacht Boardwalk, previously known as Project 707, has also hit the water. Designed by De Voogt Naval Architects, Boardwalk is due for delivery in 2021. Meanwhile, the expedition-style 55-metre superyacht Project 708 has been revealed for the first time. Due for delivery in 2021, Project 708 features exterior design by Philippe Briand’s Vitruvius studio, and interior design by Boutsen Design. Features include an ice-classed hull and…

By the time you read this update, we will already have a much clearer vision of how the 36th America’s Cup will play out. With a completely new concept and class of boat, there will be significant disparities between the teams. The Christmas Race, which runs from 17 to 21 December, will have given the teams and their supporters a good insight into those key performance differences. A poor early score card will be hard to come back from, although not impossible, but with only a few weeks between the Christmas Race and the start of the Challenger Selection Series, the teams will be desperate to fit in any possible upgrades to their boats. The clock is ticking. Rewind to 17 October when we launched our race boat Britannia II, here at…
