After months of poring over so many unique and stylish weddings, we’re delighted to present the winners of our 2016 Wedding of the Year Competition – Katie and Andy! We fell in love with the relaxed, romantic vibe of their celebration and the many special personal touches the couple created for their big day. See the gorgeous details of all the winners for yourself on pages 14–41. Across all of the entries, there was one common theme: couples want their wedding to be as much for their guests as for themselves. They want everyone in attendance to share in their celebration and have the most amazing, memorable day. So, in this issue we’ve put together the main ingredients for an unforgettable wedding day, from the food and wine to the venue…

celebrating 30 years of fabulous weddings

Right from the first issue Bride & Groom encouraged couples to express their individuality. We featured alternative fashion options and styled our shoots to show how to add your own personal touch. From the days when traditional evening tails, morning and dinner suits were the norm, to the current slim-fit business suits and waistcoats in elegant hues, the…

wedding of the year 2016 andy & katie

It’s with great excitement that we share with you the gorgeous wedding of Katie and Andy, our 2016 Wedding of the Year winners. The couple wanted a modern, unique wedding that included plenty of personal touches and beautiful details. We think they achieved this, and more. Katie tells us about their dream day… We had been engaged for five years, so this event was some time in the making. Endless hours and much love went into ensuring every detail was perfect. Our DIY list was large, but the months spent crafting all these elements made our day so much more special, and seeing everything come together was such a proud moment. We made our wedding signage and the seating chart from sheets of plywood. My aunty and I arranged all the ceremony…

bride of the year carol brien

Carol and Justin married at beautiful Whangamata Beach after both spending time there as children, and then together. Carol seized the chance to plan and style a wedding that reflected them as a couple, and she looked absolutely radiant on the day. Carol shares their story… I enjoy crafting and creating, and I’m a bit of an organiser extraordinaire. With our wedding day the ultimate event to plan, it was a perfect opportunity for me to dive head first into creating a day that was a perfect reflection of us and our style. I never wanted a traditional wedding theme. The anchor idea originally came from a necklace that Justin gave me for my birthday. To me, the anchor symbol perfectly sums up Justin – a mad fisherman, but also the guy…

groom of the year graham nelson

After a chance meeting at university, Graham and Summer dated for seven years before Graham popped the question on their OE in Europe. Their love story continued as they planned their dream summer wedding with a relaxed, boho theme. Their happiness and adoration for each other shines through in their photos. Graham tells us about their special day... Summer and I are the perfect match. I could use lots of clichéd examples, but as a bloke I am a bit short on all that lovey-dovey stuff. However, I would describe Summer as a breath of fresh air who keeps me on my toes every day, while inspiring me to be a better person. She accepts me for who I am, and loves me for me (with all my faults). She is…
